How to Fix Duplicate Content Issues

SEO Jan 22, 2026 2 min read

What the duplicate content check tests

SiteCurl compares the title tags and meta descriptions across all pages in a scan. If two or more pages share the exact same title or description, they are flagged. The check reports the number of duplicate groups and shows examples.

Why it matters

When multiple pages have the same title, search engines cannot tell them apart. Google may pick the wrong one to show in results, or suppress all of them. Duplicate meta descriptions have a similar effect: Google ignores them and generates its own snippet, which is usually worse than what you would write.

How to fix it

Write unique titles for every page

Each page should have a title that describes its specific content. A common mistake is using the same template across all pages:

Bad: “My Company Welcome” on every page

Good:

  • Homepage: “My Company Web Design for Small Businesses”
  • About: “About My Company Our Story and Team”
  • Services: “Web Design Services My Company”

Write unique meta descriptions

Like titles, each page deserves its own description that summarizes what the page specifically covers. Include a call to action when appropriate.

Fix CMS templates

Many CMS themes use the same title template for all pages. Check your theme settings or SEO plugin to ensure each page type generates a unique title pattern.

Use canonical tags

If you intentionally have similar pages (e.g., a print version and a web version), use the rel="canonical" tag to tell search engines which version is the primary one.

How to verify the fix

Run a SiteCurl scan with multiple pages. Check the duplicate titles and duplicate descriptions findings in the SEO section to confirm all pages are unique.

Duplicate content is closely related to title tag and meta description optimization. Fix duplicates first, then optimize each page’s individual title and description for clarity and click-through rate.
