Why it matters
AI crawlers read the raw HTML your server returns. They do not run JavaScript, so anything painted after scripts load can be invisible to them.
When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity about your industry, those tools draw on what their crawlers were able to read. If your content only appears after JavaScript runs, or your robots rules block an AI bot, the page can be a blank to them even though it looks fine in a browser.

What is AI readability?

Do AI crawlers really not run JavaScript?
The major AI crawlers fetch your raw HTML and generally do not execute client-side JavaScript the way a browser does. Content that is rendered only after scripts run can be missing from what they read. Server-rendered or static HTML is the reliable way to make content available to them.
What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is an emerging, optional convention: a plain-text file at the root of your site that gives AI tools a curated map of your key content, a little like robots.txt does for search crawlers. This check detects whether you have one. It is not required, and its absence is treated as an optional gap, not a failure.
Is this the same as SEO?
